Barcelona are expecting a massive squad overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window as Xavi Hernandez looks to get rid of the unwanted stars in an attempt to make way for newer arrivals.

The formula could apply even in areas where Barcelona are lacking depth. And in a recent report from Diario Sport, they have shed some light on the right-back department.

Dani Alves is facing an uncertain future at the club and is yet to receive any official offer regarding his renewal. But the report speculates he is going to remain at Camp Nou on a special contract that will only run until January.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are expected to offload Sergino Dest. The American international won’t remain a part of the team next season despite Xavi being left impressed by his improving performances.

The main reason behind Barcelona’s desire to offload Dest remains unknown. But the youngster has certainly found it difficult to live up to his expectations at Camp Nou.

His progress at Barça has been marred by injuries while he has also struggled in settling into Spanish football. It has compelled the Catalans to cash in on him at the end of the season, knowing the youngster could generate sizable revenue.

Barcelona’s idea is to continue with Alves during the first half of next season before finding a solution for the right-back department in the January transfer window.

During his process, Dest is set to make way for newer arrivals, possibly including Cesar Azpilicueta. The Chelsea veteran could be an alternative for Alves, giving Xavi enough depth at right-back, at least up until the halfway point of the campaign.

Barcelona are expected to initiate their plan next week, potentially offering Alves a new deal while asking Dest to leave the club. However, nothing has been concretely decided as of yet and a lot could still happen as we gear up for the final week of the season.
