Liverpool signed Mohamed Salah from AS Roma for a transfer fee of €42 million back in the summer of 2017.

Since then, the winger has gone on to score 130 goals and register 49 assists in 209 appearances for the club’s first-team.

However, things could have panned out very differently for both Salah and Liverpool.

Barcelona turned down the opportunity to sign the Egyptian international before he joined the Reds, according to El Nacional.cat, as cited by LFC Transfer Room’s Twitter account.

Barcelona decided to sign forward Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of €135 million instead.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

All we will say is that Barcelona missed out on signing a superb player. Salah now possesses a current market value of €100 million, which backs up the aforementioned argument.

Dembele has struggled to get going at the Nou Camp. The 24-year-old has only found the back of the net 30 times and registered 21 assists in 118 appearances for Barcelona’s first-team.

Liverpool certainly signed the better player.
