Barcelona have rejected LaLiga’s proposal to switch the upcoming Clásico to the Santiago Bernabéu amid security fears surrounding the political situation in Catalonia.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report on Thursday that Barça are unwilling to move the match to Madrid but would consider postponing it to a later date.

The first Clásico of the 2019/20 season is scheduled to take place at Camp Nou on 26 October but if it is postponed, it will likely take place on 18 December instead.

The Catalan club are reported to have submitted their official objection to the Competition Committee and a decision could be made later on Thursday.

As things stand, next week’s Clásico is set to be Barça’s first home match since the Spanish supreme court jailed nine Catalan separatist leaders over their roles in the failed bid for secession two years ago.

The ruling has sparked angry protests in Barcelona, with many protesters clashing with police at the city’s El Prat airport earlier this week.
