There are some changes expected to take place in the FC Barcelona squad before the start of the next season, and one area where these changes are expected to have the most pronounced impact is that of the goalkeeper.

The Catalans are closely linked with the RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, while one goalie who is highly likely to leave the club this summer is Inaki Pena.

Valencia and Celta Vigo make offers for Inaki Pena

The Spaniard was below both Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order last season, and Garcia’s arrival would make his situation even more untenable. As a result, the Blaugranes are listening to offers for him.

According to Fichajes, Valencia and Celta Vigo have been the first sides to show an interest in Pena, as they look to take advantage of the market opportunity that arises with him having only one year left on his contract and his stay at the Catalan club highly unlikely after his relegation to the bench last season.

However, despite his difficult position, Barcelona have no intentions of giving him up for cheap, and are unwilling to accept low offers, like those put in by Valencia and Celta, for a player that they believe still has quite a lot of value in the market.

Still, the Catalans have a limited bargaining margin, as they would be keen to get rid of the goalkeeper’s salary. However, the club’s directors are clear that his departure should provide Barcelona with some financial compensation so they do not lose such a valuable asset for free.

Meanwhile, Inaki Pena continues to wait for more offers, as he understands that he is not a part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the next season. He wants to stay in La Liga, but it remains to be seen how his future will pan out in the coming weeks and months.
