Shot-stopper Lunin was afforded a starting berth by Ukraine, for the country’s playoff showdown with Iceland.

And the 25-year-old, expected to play a central role for Real Madrid over the season’s final months in the absence of Thibaut Courtois, did his part in Ukraine emerging on the right side of an eventual 2-1 result.

Frontman Lewandowski, meanwhile, captained Poland, in their playoff meeting with Wales.

The Barcelona veteran saw out the full 90 minutes, and 30 more, as the Cardiff City Stadium clash was ultimately forced to a penalty shootout.

And Lewa showcased all of his experience, in confidently slotting him the Poles’ first of the shootout, en route to an eventual 5-4 triumph from the spot.
