Spanish media outlet AS have revealed some critical information about the situation of Barcelona target Antonio Rudiger and Chelsea that heats the transfer saga.

The German player reportedly has a very tense relationship with the London based club at the moment. The club and player are unable to reach consent on mutual terms, and a renewal is looking unlikely with every passing day.

Rudiger’s current contract with Chelsea ends in the coming summer, after which he will be free to negotiate terms with other clubs and move on a free transfer. Several clubs including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on the player and look to swoop him in June.

Chelsea are trying to negotiate a renewal with the centre-back. However, the player refused to agree to the proposed contract that included a salary of €8 million.

Moreover, the gap between the player’s expectations and the club’s proposal is so high that an agreement is seemingly impossible. Reports say that Rudiger is demanding a salary of €25 million to renew at Stamford Bridge.

Barcelona already have five centre-backs at the moment. However, the future of Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet is uncertain, and the Frenchmen could depart from the side shortly.

Moreover, Gerard Pique is ageing and growing closer to the end of his time in Barcelona. That said, a reliable option to reinforce the central defence is a top priority. As such, it is not surprising to see Barça linked with Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen as well, both of whom are set to become free agents next summer.

Barcelona have been scouting the player for a while now. His demands for a high salary are discouraging, though.
