Barcelona is set for a significant defensive shakeup this summer, with a series of players facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou.

The likes of Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet have recently returned from their respective loan spells, but their prospects at Barça look bleak. Mika Faye, too, could leave despite being regarded as one of the finest defensive talents.

For a while, Inigo Martinez, too, was on the list of defenders facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou. But a recent report indicates he is all set to stay at Barcelona next season.

Barcelona’s play in central defensive area

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are actively looking to offload Eric Garcia, Clément Lenglet, and Mika Faye.

This move comes amidst the club’s efforts to streamline their squad and free up funds for potential reinforcements.

Barça’s decision to retain Inigo necessitates changes elsewhere in the backline. Top on the exit list appears to be Eric Garcia, who impressed on loan at Girona last season. Despite his successful spell, Barcelona seem intent on recouping funds from his sale.

Another player deemed expendable is Clement Lenglet. While Lenglet had a decent loan stint at Aston Villa, the English club is not looking to extend his stay. Lenglet’s departure would free up playing time and a significant portion of the wage bill.

Mika Faye’s situation is a bit more nuanced. Considered one of Barcelona’s brightest defensive prospects, Faye might struggle for first-team opportunities next season.

The emergence of Pau Cubarsi, coupled with the presence of established defenders like Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, and Andreas Christensen, could limit Faye’s playing time.

A loan or a permanent transfer could be a viable option for the young Senegalese defender, with FC Porto among the clubs interested in his services.

Offloading these three players would provide a much-needed financial boost for Barcelona. The transfer fees generated could be used to strengthen other areas of the squad or help reduce the club’s overall salary mass.
