Xavi made three changes from his side that trounced Royal Antwerp in the Champions League with Oriol Romeu most notably replacing Gavi in midfield.

His side fell behind early in the first half as Jørgen Larsen fired across Marc-André ter Stegen after sneaking in behind Jules Koundé.

Gavi was introduced before the interval for a struggling Frenkie de Jong, who picked up a knock, in hopes of stopping the visitors’ dominance.

The Spanish champions went further undone by Iago Aspas’ defence-splitting pass that teed up Anastasios Douvikas to sweep home Celta’s second.

But the Blaugrana were offered a swift lifeline just five minutes later when João Félix’s ball over the top teed up Robert Lewandowski for a hooked finish.

Four minutes later, the Poland international had levelled things up by drilling João Cancelo’s cross from the right-hand side of the box past Ivan Villar.

Provider turned poacher at the end of normal time when Cancelo made a perfectly-timed run to meet Gavi’s cross into the centre of the area to snatch victory.

The result sees Barça replace Girona at LaLiga’s summit after their Catalan neighbours saw off Mallorca earlier on Saturday.
