Barcelona and the RFEF were at odds not too long ago over the situation of Pau Cubarsi and the next steps to be taken after his injury.

The Spanish national team ruled his blow to be a minor one and expected him to recover completely in a matter of days, thus stating that he could be available to play for Spain later this week.

Barcelona, meanwhile, were strictly against La Roja’s decision to keep the player in the national team camp and insisted on him returning to Catalonia to take forward his recovery which the RFEF eventually obliged to.

Fitness under evaluation

Earlier today, Barcelona officially confirmed the nature and extent of the injury that the young defender had suffered during Spain’s clash against The Netherlands earlier this week.

“The tests conducted this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have shown that first-team player Pau Cubarsí has an elongation of the anterior tibiofibular ligament in his right ankle. He will undergo conservative treatment, and his tolerance to activity will be re-evaluated in 48 hours,” the official statement read.

As relayed by COPE and iterated by the above statement, Cubarsi’s injury is indeed not very serious and his participation against Osasuna next week cannot entirely be ruled out.

He will work on the sidelines and look to ensure that he can return as early as possible. The evaluation of his condition after 48 hours will likely be the test that determines his availability against Osasuna.

Cubarsi’s fitness will play a massive role in Hansi Flick’s plans against the Pamplona-based side for the participation of Ronald Araujo and Inigo Martinez is also in doubt.

Arrangements are being made to bring the former back from international duty in time for the game and the latter is speeding up his recovery from injury. Given that neither’s presence is confirmed, however, having Cubarsi will be a relief for the coach.
