Over the last summer transfer window, many expected to see Barca make yet another attempt to bring back Neymar to the club. However, as former Barca president Josep Bartomeu revealed, the club simply could not afford such a high-priced transfer move unless players were going to be involved in the transfer deal.

A year later, Barcelona remains in more of a difficult economic situation, which will provide the winning candidate from the upcoming Barca presidential election with a monumental task to turn the ship around.

As Font opened up to ESPN about, Barca’s economic difficulties will keep the club out of the running for any possible Neymar transfer deal.

“Signing Neymar is not viable economically or institutionally,” Font said. “He is one of the top players in the world but Barca cannot commit to an operation to sign him or pay his wages. We must turn the page on Neymar.”

All signs continue to point towards Neymar staying at PSG. One recent report noted that PSG had planned to end all speculation regarding the forward’s future at the club with an announcement of their new contract extension agreement. However, Neymar’s adductor injury delayed PSG’s announcement plans.

Until Neymar officially signs any contract extension deal with PSG, the rumors and speculation regarding his future at the club will continue to carry on.
