Erling Haaland is the name on every big club’s transfer wishlist ahead of the next season.
The Borussia Dortmund superstar has become one of the most dangerous goalscorers in Europe over the past couple of years and has almost every elite club in the continent chasing his signature for the summer transfer window later this year.
Barcelona, too, are among the suitors, as president Joan Laporta desperately seeks a marquee addition to the roster.
The Catalans signed Ferran Torres recently, but are yet to be able to register him, which gives an indication of their financial issues and the need to get rid of deadwood from the squad. But Laporta, in spite of all the potential roadblocks, wants to go all out to capture the signing of the 21-year-old.
The Barça supremo has already held multiple meetings with Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, to discuss a transfer. Recent reports have indicated that the pair have an agreement that the striker will arrive at Camp Nou, provided the Blaugrana are able to raise the necessary capital for the deal.
Now, according to Oriol Domenech on TV3 (h/t Albert Roge), Laporta is very confident about getting the transfer over the line and has been telling his ‘trusted people’ that Haaland will be a Barcelona player in the summer.
Even though the ex-RB Salzburg ace has a release clause worth €75 million, the total value of signing him will be much higher due to the wages involved and the potential agent commission.
In addition to that, the competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City is likely to make things only harder for the Catalan heavyweights. Nevertheless, Laporta remains sure of getting his man in the summer.
Having lost Lionel Messi last year, Barça need a marquee name upfront to lead the team into a new era. And, Haaland would be an excellent option to do so. What now remains to be seen is whether Laporta is able to get the deal across the line come summer.
