Barcelona president Joan Laporta was, on Monday, once more drawn on the club’s pursuit of a leading summer transfer target.

The player in question? Nico Williams.

Wide-man Nico is widely reported to have been identified as the chief summer transfer target at Barcelona.

As much comes with the Spanish international considered the ideal profile to round out a frontline also boasting the talents of Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski.

In the knowledge that Nico himself is more than eager to link up with Hansi Flick’s squad, it is therefore simply a matter of the Blaugrana piecing together the funds to activate his €58 million Athletic Club release clause.

Speaking during an exchange with the media on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his side’s pursuit of the 22-year-old was put to Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

This comes with Nico fresh off raising his profile yet further, courtesy of a match-winning display in Sunday’s Euro 2024 finale.

Laporta, however, was keen to keep his cards close to his chest, in responding:

“Nico Williams? We respect Athletic Club a lot.”
