Barcelona are reported to be preparing a new contract offer for Ferran Torres, who has settled into his role of that as impact sub and general attacking cover.
Torres hasn't often started games this season – just ten of his 32 appearances across all competitions – with Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal the preferred front three.
But the Spain international is the first alternative to any member of the attacking trident, way ahead of Ansu Fati and Pau Victor, for good reason. It’s 13 goals in 2024/25, making it the joint most prolific campaign of his career to date, alongside 2020/21 for Manchester City, with two months left.
His last two goals were as a substitute in the dramatic 4-2 comeback win over La Liga title rivals Atletico Madrid, which could yet prove decisive in where the trophies lands in May.
Torres' good form, coupled with his limited playing time, has sparked links to a number of clubs across Europe. The likes of Aston Villa, Manchester United and Liverpool have been named as suitors for the 25-year-old.
He will soon enter the last two years of his current contract, but SPORT writes that Barcelona are keen to tack on two more that will take the expiration date to 2029.
Part of renegotiating is a reward for Torres and the work he has put in. His basic salary would remain unchanged, but a proposed new deal that club officials are said to be drawing up is expected to include greater bonuses that will raise his overall earning potential.
With Robert Lewandowski not going anywhere just yet, despite being due to turn 37 in August, and Alexander Isak likely to be out of reach from a financial perspective, tying Torres to a new contract could be an underrated piece of summer business for Barcelona.
