Barcelona are closely monitoring Bayer Leverkusen’s defender Jonathan Tah and Lille’s forward Jonathan David, according to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo.

It must be noted that Barcelona are currently facing some uncertainty, as several key players’ contracts are set to expire in 2026. While some are open to renewing their deals, others are hesitant, complicating the situation for the club.

This is why the sporting management is taking a proactive approach, preparing for the possibility that not all contract renewals will go through as planned.

In response, Barça are eyeing potential free transfers to bring in new talent, ensuring they don’t find themselves short-handed when the time comes.

Tah is a possibility

One player firmly on Barcelona’s radar is Tah, a centre-back whose contract with Leverkusen expires in 2026. He has already made his stance clear by refusing to renew his contract with the German club.

Although Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in him, Tah seems more inclined to join Barcelona, thanks to his connection with Hansi Flick.

The two worked together when Flick was coaching the German national team, and Tah is reportedly keen to reunite with him at Barça. With four of Barcelona’s centre-backs facing expiring contracts in 2026, the need to strengthen the defence is a top priority for the club.

Then there is David

In addition to reinforcing the defence, Barcelona are also looking to strengthen their attacking options, especially with Robert Lewandowski potentially entering the 2025-26 season at the age of 37, should he extend his stay for another year.

For this reason, Barcelona have set their sights on David, Lille’s 24-year-old Canadian forward. David, who is also being pursued by Paris Saint-Germain, has made it clear that playing for Barcelona is a dream of his.

Despite the competition from PSG, David is reportedly willing to wait for the opportunity to join Barça. However, Barcelona will not be able to negotiate with him or Tah until January 1, 2026.
