In a recent print edition, Mundo Deportivo has revealed that Barcelona are planning to move in for Borussia Dortmund frontman Erling Haaland this summer. It is believed that Barca president Joan Laporta is eager to sign a star player during the summer transfer window and has set his sights on the Norwegian striker who is wanted by a number of top clubs, including Real Madrid (transcripted and translated by Sport Witness).

Haaland’s Excellent Campaign At Signal Iduna Park

Haaland has been nothing short of a goal-scoring machine for Dortmund over the past ten months as he has produced several mesmerizing displays for them this season. The Norway international has banged in 33 goals and secured ten assists in 34 appearances for the German outfit this term in various competitions.

The Leeds-born attacker has caught the eye with some excellent performances in Europe where he is averaging 3.6 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in this UEFA Champions League campaign. However, Haaland needs to take care of the ball a bit better after completing just 72.5% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).

The 20-year-old is a generational talent, so he would be a massive coup for the Catalans if they can find a way to get a deal done for him during the summer transfer window.

What Will The Norwegian International Bring To Nou Camp?

Haaland boasts blistering pace under his belt and can make some promising runs with the ball in the final third. He is a good dribbler who can cause all sorts of problems inside the opposition penalty area because of his knack for finding space which helps him to get a few shots in on-target.

At such a young age, Haaland has already shown that he can be a consistent goal-getter at the highest level. The Norwegian frontman has the potential to improve his all-round game even further if he can find an ideal club to fulfil his ever-growing ambitions.

Barcelona could be a dream destination for him as he could be the next face of the club after Lionel Messi, who is in the final months of his Barca contract. Recruiting someone of the Norwegian’s world-class quality could even help the Catalan outfit convince Messi to stay beyond this summer which will be a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Haaland would be a significant upgrade over Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Martin Braithwaite and is good enough to bring some success back to the Nou Camp in the years to come.
