Despite having an excellent attacking line during the 2024-25 season, FC Barcelona have strengthened their attack even further this summer by signing the Manchester United star Marcus Rashford on loan.

The Englishman arrives to provide greater depth for Hansi Flick’s attack, and if everything goes as planned, he can even get a starting role. His versatility would be one of the factors that can help him get minutes this season, as he can play both on the wing and in the centre of the attack.

However, the Catalans will have to bring another forward to their team in the coming years, as Robert Lewandowski is already approaching 37 years of age and does not have many years left to continue playing at the highest level.

In such a context, Fichajes reports that Hansi Flick has already asked Barcelona to sign a top-level striker to replace the Pole next summer, and there are three names currently being considered by the Blaugrana Sporting Department, i.e., Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, and Julian Alvarez.

Both Isak and Alvarez are emerging as the leading candidates for this purpose, as they fit in perfectly with the German coach’s requirements for a centre-forward, displaying excellent mobility, goalscoring, and space reading. Furthermore, both of these players are also highly versatile and have good link-up abilities, two other important aspects for Flick.

Each of these players will cost at least €90 million. Although such a price would have been abortive for Barcelona in the last few years, they are making good progress in the financial aspect, and can potentially make such a big outlay for these players in the summer of 2026.

Erling Haaland remains Joan Laporta’s dream

However, Joan Laporta’s dream is to bring the Norwegian Erling Haaland to Barcelona, whose signing would be somewhat more complex, especially because of his high salary and release clause.

Still, he could end up leaving Manchester City if the English team does not improve its performance next season, and the Catalans are looking to attract him with the lure of a highly ambitious project led by the likes of Lamine Yamal and Pedri, among others.

Barcelona would start working on the striker’s signing only in 2026. But for now, it seems that they have already begun their search for Robert Lewandowski’s successor.
