Barcelona have tied down several key players with new contracts in recent months and continue to work on more strategic renewals.
The next extension that the La Liga champions intend to tackle is that of key midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Netherlands international’s current contract expires in 2026, and even though the club and the player have been keen on extending the deal, despite facing several hurdles.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona plan to advance contract renewal talks with Frenkie de Jong in the coming days.
Discussions will take place as both parties remain keen on agreeing on a new deal as soon as possible.
This comes amid speculations that De Jong is looking to change his agent. The 28-year-old has had a falling out with Ali Dursun, who had a difficult relationship with Barça as well.
And, according to SPORT, Pini Zahavi could become the Dutch midfielder’s new representative.

The superagent has a great relationship with Joan Laporta and even had a meeting with the Barcelona president and Hansi Flick on Friday night.
While a move for Marcus Rashford was discussed during the meeting, the topic of De Jong’s renewal was also understood to have come up.
If true, Zahavi linking up with De Jong will prove to be a big plus for Barcelona and should make a renewal easier to achieve.
De Jong has had his fair share of ups and downs at Barça, and rumours of a departure have followed the midfielder summer after summer.
However, this time around, both the club and the player are eager to extend the contract with the Dutchman establishing himself as a key player under Hansi Flick.
