Barcelona’s performance against Mallorca last night had plenty of positives for the manager in terms of the team’s freshness and desire to push for the title.

With the final of the Copa del Rey just days away, the manager was forced to rotate his troops in anticipation of the big game. As a result, he heavily rotated his starting lineup and provided starts to several fringe players.

Ansu Fati was one of the players who earned a rare start last night, but his performance turned out to be one of the biggest positives for the manager to take home.

Flick is impressed

As relayed in a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Flick was impressed by Fati’s display against Mallorca and what he brought to the team’s attacking third.

With Robert Lewandowski sidelined through injury, the youngster could thus earn more minutes in the coming games, which is a massive step forward considering that Barcelona play Real Madrid and Inter Milan in their coming games.

Fati has not had the trust of the manager for the greater part of the current season, but his recent rise and improvement in training earned him the start last night which he utilised completely.

The Spanish outlet further relays that a meeting has been scheduled between Fati’s agent Jorge Mendes and Barcelona’s board to discuss his future.

Considering that he shares an agent with Lamine Yamal, the meeting will cover several important topics.

One of the keys behind Fati’s resurgence is the special hours he puts in with the physical trainers of Hansi Flick’s staff and a personal trainer to ensure he is completely fit and raring for games.

The extra physical preparation, needless to say, has instilled confidence in the player and it was that confident version of Fati who stepped onto the field last night. His finishing is still a work in progress, but his link-up play and movements showed serious promise.
