In a major update, Mundo Deportivo reports that FC Barcelona are growing optimistic about returning to the 1:1 rule in the summer, which would enable them to go after ‘top-level’ signings.

Barcelona are working to be able to close and meet the budget they planned for the current season. The budget envisaged a revenue of €859 million and an after-tax profit of €11 million.

In this sense, the club is optimistic that it will be able to meet the budget and, therefore, close the season in the green.

Therefore, the club is beginning to plan a framework in which it can have the capacity to return to the 1-1 rule. That is to say, that every euro earned in transfers can be used, without restrictions, to make signings.

How is it possible?

Barcelona’s plan was to finish the current financial year in the green despite the reduction in income resulting from the move to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

The Catalans were counting on the additional effort of the commercial area, with revenues expected to increase from €351 million to €378 million, the increase in income from Media (~€30 million), and the containment of ordinary expenses due to the 27% reduction in the wage bill.

Furthermore, Barça are working to close a deal with Nike that could also have a positive impact on the club’s accounts.

The two parties are already working on a ten-year proposal that would also include a bonus for the signing of this new agreement that could have a positive impact on fair play.

On top of that, Barcelona are also working with some companies that want to partner with the club to compensate for the failed Libero lever.

Positive feelings

The report states that there are positive inputs from the club that they will be able to close the set budget and it will result in them being able to sign without salary fair play limitations in the summer.

In this regard, the Blaugrana have made consultations with La Liga that ratify these good expectations, which could open up the option of signing top-level players.

One of the direct consequences of the return to the 1:1 rule would be that Barça can sign top-level players by paying a transfer fee. One of the players that the club likes the most is Bernardo Silva, who himself appears keen on the move.
