Sport has recently reported that Barcelona are open to sending Miralem Pjanic out on loan this summer. It is understood that the Catalan club are willing to sanction his loan departure with Juventus showing interest in bringing him back to Turin for the upcoming campaign with the option to extend his loan deal by another year (via Sport).

Pjanic’s Underwhelming Form At Catalonia Last Season

Pjanic has been at the receiving end of a frustrating campaign as he struggled to prove his worth at the Nou Camp. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international failed to register a goal or an assist in 30 appearances for the Catalan club last season across all competitions.

The Zvornik-born sensation was far from convincing with his contributions at the centre of the Barca midfield after he averaged 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 La Liga campaign. However, he was excellent with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 91.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Pjanic needs to secure a regular run of games to get his confidence back as father time is slowly but surely catching up with his game. He is still under contract at the Nou Camp until the summer of 2024, so Barca has no choice but to loan him out to reduce their wage bill as they will struggle to find a club willing to take him permanently this summer.

Pjanic is an excellent passer of the ball and can create some decent plays for others around him. He can keep possession moving effortlessly but has often lacked the end-product in front of the opposition half. The 100-time Bosnia-Herzegovina international needs to figure out a way to be more decisive in the final third if he wants to improve his numbers on the pitch.

Hence, sealing a return to Juve could help the player get back to his best as he might excel playing in familiar surroundings at the Turin club where he was once a top performer before his fall from grace at Barcelona.

The Catalans are in dire need tor reduce their wage bill so that they can ease their financial concerns a bit in this off-season. Therefore, they have no other option but to loan Pjanic out as he is currently surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp. Now that Barca are willing to sanction his loan exit, it will be a good move for the player and the Catalan club before the start of the new campaign.
