Barcelona are on the search for a new left-back heading into the new season as they seek a cover and a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba.

The veteran has had to play the entire season without a natural cover and at 33, he will soon be entering the final phase of his career. So, it is important for Barça to start laying down the succession plan for him or at least bring a player as a backup to rotate the veteran regularly.

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has been a top target for the Blaugrana in this regard. But, according to Mundo Deportivo, a new option may have surfaced on the table for Barcelona as they have been offered the services of Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro.

The 28-year-old is set to enter the final year of his contract with the Black and Yellows this summer and is keen on taking up a new challenge. To that end, a move away from the Signal Iduna Park could be on the cards in the coming weeks, with Barça being given the chance to sign him.

The Blaugrana are no strangers to Guerreiro, having tried to sign him back in 2016 as a replacement for Adriano Correia. However, the Portuguese international opted to join Dortmund in search of more regular game-time, while Barça brought in Lucas Digne.

Six years later, Guerreiro is keen on moving to Camp Nou and his contract situation might compel Dortmund into considering a sale.

The German giants are shrewd operators in the market and will likely cash in on the 28-year-old rather than risk losing him for nothing a year later. The report even mentions that a fee of around €8-10 million could do the trick, which would be well within Barcelona’s range.

Guerreiro is an accomplished left-back in his prime. The Portuguese international is known for his attacking instincts and has had a solid season with Dortmund, racking up five goals and four assists in 27 games.

So, while Marcos Alonso might have been the top target, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona study the possibility of signing Guerreiro from Dortmund come summer.
