In a recent report, El Nacional claimed that Barcelona have been offered a chance to land Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino. It is understood that the Catalan giants could be handed an opportunity to sign the Brazilian attacker for just €20m at the end of this campaign.

Firmino’s Injury-Ravaged Season In English Football

Firmino has endured a frustrating campaign at Anfield as he has missed a lot of games due to injuries. However, the Brazil international has done well to score seven goals and pick up four assists in 18 matches for the Reds this season in various competitions.

Most of Firmino’s league appearances have come as a substitute which explains why he is only averaging 1.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Premier League football. Still, he deserves credit for being tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates in the final third after making 79.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Is Firmino A Good Fit For Barcelona?

Firmino remains an excellent playmaker in the attacking end of the field. He is quite unselfish in the way he operates in and around the opposition penalty box and can also score some important goals for his team. Hence, the Brazil international could turn out to be a great fit for Xavi’s style of play at the Nou Camp as long as he can steer clear of injuries over the next few years.

We can expect the 30-year-old to add more goals and creativity to Barca‘s attack. Plus, he will offer some serious competition for Memphis Depay at the Catalan club and could serve as a major upgrade over Luuk de Jong next summer.

Thus, Xavi should think about taking Liverpool’s offer if they decide to sell the Brazilian maestro for €20m at the end of this season. At 30, Firmino has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level and could help Barcelona get back to challenging for major trophies in the coming seasons.
