Barcelona’s troubles with respect to Gavi’s registration took centre stage after it emerged that their Saturday’s opponent, Elche, were considering legal action against the Blaugrana for playing the young midfielder.

As it turns out, the management is not really worried about the potential threat as journalist Fernando Polo has confirmed that the team took all the necessary precautions before naming the midfielder to the team.

The journalist says that Barcelona consulted La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation a day before the fixture – on Friday – and his addition to the travelling contingent was done only after the approval.

Interestingly enough, despite not ending up on the scoresheet, Gavi proved to be a vital component of a new-look midfield as the 18-year-old ended the game with an assist, four key passes, two big chances created, and four completed dribbles.

It must be remembered that Gavi’s registration was overturned by the Commercial Court number 10 of Barcelona. The Catalan team had tied the youngster on a new four-year deal back in September but a ruling against the team means the midfielder returned to his Juvenil A deal with his old jersey number.

Elche’s potential appeal, meanwhile, would have been on the grounds of Article 141 of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), where it is mentioned that a player will not be allowed to play again for his team if his registration has been cancelled.

For the moment, the 18-year-old continues to play for Barcelona under his previous contract and if Elche comes up with a legal notice, Barcelona will have all answers ready.

Lastly, with regard to the youngster’s registration, Barcelona plan to present a new appeal before the Provincial Court of Barcelona. However, if they fail to register the midfielder before the end of the season, they will come at the risk of losing him for free in the summer.
