According to a report by SPORT, new Barcelona signing Joan Garcia has had a difficult and tense week since arriving in the city following his recent move from Espanyol.

The young shot-stopper, who officially joined Barça last Tuesday, has reportedly received several threatening messages and calls, forcing him to stay indoors for his own safety.

The situation escalated quickly after the news of his transfer became public. Garcia started receiving threats on his mobile phone and calls from hidden numbers, which led him to change his phone number altogether.

While currently on holiday, the 24-year-old has mostly avoided going out and has chosen to stay at home, only stepping out occasionally to visit close friends.

A low-key week after heated reactions

On Wednesday, the shot stopper was invited to a birthday party, but he declined the invitation, choosing to avoid any public attention due to the heated atmosphere surrounding his transfer.

The report highlights that Garcia is aware of how emotional the response has been, especially from Espanyol fans, who saw the move as a betrayal given the rivalry between the two clubs.

Despite the backlash, some of Garcia’s former teammates at Espanyol have shown quiet support.

While they cannot openly defend his decision due to the sensitivity of the situation, they understand the reasoning behind the move and have let him know privately.

Others, however, have not been as supportive, struggling to come to terms with Garcia’s decision to join Espanyol’s city rivals.

Still, the young goalkeeper seems focused on his professional future and is handling the pressure with maturity, staying away from the spotlight and avoiding unnecessary risks.

As things settle down, Barcelona will hope that the 24-year-old can put this tough start behind him and prepare for what promises to be a competitive season ahead.
