According to multiple sources, 20-year-old Moussa Wagué will finally make his long-awaited Barcelona debut.
Wagué became the youngest African to ever score in a World Cup this summer, as his 71st-minute strike put Senegal in front of Japan before Keisuke Honda’s equaliser caused the two sides to share the spoils.
After his impressive performance, Barcelona paid Belgian side K.A.S. Eupen €5m to replace Barcelona ‘B’ captain Sergi Palencia, who is currently on loan at Bordeaux.
Wagué was set to be an integral part of the ‘B’ side, however, paperwork issues meant he had to wait until November to make his Segunda División debut.
The right-back has made eight appearances for the ‘B’ side, providing one assist thus far.
With Sergi Roberto and Nélson Semedo both injured, Barcelona have no choice but to call up Wagué, who will also serve as cover for left-back Jordi Alba.
Wagué will likely start both of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey fixtures against Levante and has been registered as a part of Barcelona’s Champions League squad for the knockout stages.
The Blaugrana are back in action on 6 January when they travel to Getafe.
