Barcelona monitor İlkay Gündoğan’s situation at Manchester City | OneFootball

Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the situation of İlkay Gündoğan at Manchester City, report Mundo Deportivo.

The 32-year-old’s contract is set to expire with The Sky Blues in June 2023 and it appears as though renewal talks are yet to take place between the club and the player. While Gündoğan is keen on staying at Manchester City under the leadership of Pep Guardiola, it is yet to be seen whether the club’s board want to keep the German international next season.

Nonetheless, Barcelona are closely monitoring developments at the Etihad Stadium. Due to their poor financial standing, the Blaugrana are considering players that they could potentially sign on a free transfer next summer. Yesterday it was communicated that they are also interested in signing Youri Tielemans, whose deal is up with Leicester City next June.

While Gündoğan would certainly be a useful addition to Xavi’s squad, the transfer could only realistically happen if Manchester City choose not to extend the midfielder’s contract.
