Frenkie de Jong is staring at an uncertain week ahead as the Barcelona midfielder continues to face immense pressure from the club to leave Camp Nou ahead of the new season.

De Jong has appeared apprehensive about leaving Barça this summer majorly due to his lucrative contract at Camp Nou, coupled with deferred wages. But the midfielder has not found a suitable club either, with the primary interested party in Manchester United not even competing in the UEFA Champions League.

That said, de Jong’s stance about his future at Barcelona has softened recently, with the player appearing open to an exit, especially if the club manage to find a solution to his deferred wages.

Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the Barcelona superstar in recent weeks, with their coach Thomas Tuchel reportedly being a huge admirer of the Dutchman.

However, according to a report from Christian Falk, it appears Bayern Munich is another potential destination for de Jong. The player himself favours a move to the Allianz Arena, as the German giants are one of the finest clubs in Europe and could offer him an attractive sporting project.

De Jong may also get to reunite with his former Ajax teammate Matthijs de Ligt, who joined the Bavarians on a permanent deal from Juventus earlier in the summer.

However, Falk suggests a summer move to Bayern Munich is not a possibility for Frenkie de Jong. Having signed the likes of de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Ryan Gravenberch and Sadio Mane this summer, Bayern are not in a position to afford de Jong’s €80 million price tag.

Moreover, the club are not as keen on signing de Jong, as they have already prioritised a move for RB Leipzig starlet Konrad Laimer. Hence, there remains a possibility de Jong will continue at Barcelona for the 2022/23 season unless Chelsea make a late swoop.
