Frenkie de Jong has been one of Barcelona’s biggest chips in the transfer market this summer. Ever since the start of the transfer window, the midfielder was identified as one of the biggest sources of revenue.

Although Xavi was apprehensive about offloading the talented Dutchman at first, he was ready to sanction the move in an attempt to bring more money into the club.

The likes of Manchester United have even pushed heavily for a move for de Jong this summer.

But the transfer has not come to fruition as the player has never shown any intention to leave Camp Nou, especially due to his lucrative contract and the money owed to him through deferred salaries.

Moreover, he has been clear about that playing for Barcelona is his dream, and he won’t let go this quickly.

While Barça themselves are aware of their precarious position, it appears they are starting to squeeze de Jong further in recent days, especially in light of their wage bill issues that are preventing them from registering the new players

The whole episode has left Frenkie de Jong extremely frustrated and as per Diario SPORT, the player is seemingly considering a move away from Camp Nou. In fact, the report claims that he has told the same to the Barcelona dressing room.

Manchester United have emerged as the potential destination as the Premier League giants are still willing to table a lucrative offer on the plate and lure the midfielder to Old Trafford.

Their coach Erik ten Hag remains keen on securing a reunion with de Jong, having played a key role in launching his career at Ajax.

The player himself is considering a move to England that may not offer him Champions League football, but a relatively promising sporting prospect and most importantly, a way out of Barcelona.

The former Ajax starlet believes Barça have squeezed him enough and it might be time to take a decision, although any movement regarding his future is unlikely to come before the end phase of August.
