Barcelona will travel to Madrid tonight to take on Getafe for matchday 29 of La Liga, but are missing a fair few pieces from their squad. Ousmane Dembele and Pedri have been out for more than a month, and are still expected to miss nearly 10-14 days of action.
Meanwhile, Andreas Christensen is also still sidelined due to a hamstring injury and is not available for selection for a few more weeks.
Barcelona nearly had Frenkie de Jong back for this game, though, as per a report by Javi Miguel. The Dutchman wanted to take part in yesterday’s group training and be available for the Getafe clash.
However, he was advised against it by Barcelona’s doctors, who recommended and convinced him to continue his recovery in isolation so he could be fit in time for the game against Atletico Madrid next weekend.
De Jong had picked up an injury ahead of the international break and had to pull out from the Netherlands national team squad. While his injury was though to be nothing more than a knock initial, it has evidently transpired into something serious over the break.
Memphis Depay also called out de Jong for dropping out of international duty, saying, “I’m annoyed that Frenkie de Jong didn’t come with the Dutch national team. He is very important. I called him and he doesn’t have a serious injury, he will recover very quickly.”
It was, in fact, initially judged that de Jong would be sidelined for no more than two weeks. He was also expected to return in time to face Real Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
Barcelona stars’ injury and a longer time out of action has become quite the trend, though, as both Pedri and Dembele were also expected to be back almost immediately after the international break.
