In a recent turn of events, journalist Javi Miguel has confirmed that midfielder Frenkie de Jong might as well be selected for the matchday squad against Inter in the UEFA Champions League without getting medically discharged.

The 25-year-old former Ajax midfielder is scheduled to undergo his pending test at the Ciutat Esportiva and as everything is expected to be on track, the player himself is looking to jump on the field with his teammates for the upcoming European encounter.

Initial reports suggested that if given the go-ahead, de Jong would make it to the squad, which would ideally make him a great asset amidst the fixture congestion. However, if the club doctors feel otherwise, they would close the doors for him to play against Inter.

In that case, he would only be able to return to usual proceedings during Barcelona’s home game against Celta on Sunday, October 9. The opinion was such that neither the doctors nor the coaches are willing to take any unnecessary risks.

However, if the player is convinced of his physical well-being by studying the relapse options, he would receive a green light.

But now, as relayed by Javi Miguel, there is a high possibility of him returning to the fold even if the tests are negative.

It must be remembered that de Jong was among four Barcelona who returned to club duties with an injury. The list includes the likes of Memphis Depay, Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo.

The initial tests carried out on the midfielder confirmed a minor hamstring injury and it is suggested that issues such as these have a higher risk of relapse if not treated properly. The initial plan was to see how he performs in the training on Sunday, and the decision would have come afterwards.

As it turns out, the midfielder will be named in the squad anyway. However, it will indeed be interesting to see how Xavi lines his men if the Dutchman gets a place in the starting XI.
