Barcelona may retain 24-year-old player due to lack of satisfactory bids

FC Barcelona are looking to incorporate a left-winger in their squad in the remaining days of this winter transfer window, and they are reportedly quite close to landing the Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, with whom they have already reached personal terms.

However, before being able to land him, the Catalans will have to generate some space on their wage bill, and the only viable option to do so seems to be the departure of some of their current players who are not necessary for Hansi Flick.

Among these players, one who has been strongly linked with a move away from the Blaugrana club in the last few days is 24-year-old center-back Eric Garcia, who is attracting a lot of demand from the market, mainly from Girona and the Italian side Como.

The likelihood of him leaving Barcelona seemed to be quite high till yesterday, but now, SPORT reports that he is not going to leave as none of the offers that have arrived for him up to now convince the Catalans, and Flick also wants him to remain in his squad.

Meanwhile, the defender himself is also comfortable at the Blaugrana club as he believes he can win important titles here, and would leave only if the Catalan side pushes him to do so.

Offers that have come for Garcia up to now have not exceeded €10 million in fixed and variable fees, and Barcelona believe this amount is not enough to make them part ways with him.

However, Girona and Como are not expected to raise their offers, and the Catalans also understand that his sale could be one of the only ways for them to bring an offensive reinforcement in January.

Thus, it is looking likely that he will end up staying at Barcelona unless the Sporting Department clearly tells him to leave so they can generate the required funds for a winter reinforcement.
