Barcelona’s preseason preparations are underway, with the club notably sharing images of new signing Joan Garcia in a training kit.

However, even as Garcia gears up for a new adventure at Barcelona, the registration woes can’t seem to escape the Catalans.

After all, it must be remembered that Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny, two of Barcelona’s supposed main goalkeepers for next season, are still not registered by La Liga.

A big problem for Barcelona in goalkeeping department

According to Mundo Deportivo, this situation could force Hansi Flick to start the 2025/26 campaign with last season’s goalkeeping duo: Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena.

Ter Stegen, despite receiving interest from clubs such as Galatasaray and Inter Milan, is reportedly keen on staying at the club.

The German is not considering any offers and remains firm in his stance, further complicating Barça’s attempt to reshape their goalkeeping department.

Peña, meanwhile, has accepted that he is not in Flick’s plans and is open to a move. However, none of the proposals on the table so far meet his expectations, and a deal could take longer than expected to materialise.

Unless there’s a breakthrough, all four goalkeepers, Ter Stegen, Pena, Garcia, and Szczesny, could travel on the pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea later this month.

They’re also expected to be joined by Barça Atletic’s Diego Kochen, who will serve as the third-choice keeper this season.

Time is running out. If Barcelona fail to register Garcia and Szczesny in time, the veterans will remain the default starters once the La Liga season kicks off in mid-August.

This is a scenario the club had hoped to move on from.
