Barcelona are in the final stages of negotiations with Manchester United over a loan move for Marcus Rashford, with an option to make the deal permanent next summer.
Rashford has been on Barcelona’s radar for several months. He was first offered to the Catalan club during the January window, and sporting director Deco, alongside head coach Hansi Flick, has now given the green light for the deal to proceed.
The transfer structure currently being discussed is a season-long loan with an option to buy. This approach suits Barcelona’s financial reality, allowing them to bring in a high-profile attacker without a significant upfront cost.
However, Rashford’s current wages — reported to be over £325,000 per week — remain a sticking point, and the Spanish club will require the player to accept a reduced salary to facilitate the move.
Flick has reportedly spoken with Rashford directly and views the England international as a valuable addition to his attacking options.
The former Bayern Munich boss is keen to add more width and versatility to the squad, particularly after a move for Nico Williams fell through when the winger signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Club.
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he made 17 appearances, scored four goals, and provided six assists before a hamstring injury ended his campaign in April. Villa declined a £40 million option to make the transfer permanent.
The forward returned to Carrington earlier this month to train individually, but United are understood to be open to a sale and are prepared to move him on this summer if the right offer arrives.
Barcelona believe Rashford can revive his form under new management and see the loan arrangement as a low-risk opportunity to assess his impact before committing to a permanent deal.
All parties are now working to finalise the agreement, with further talks expected over salary terms and the purchase clause.
