La Liga giants Barcelona are making progress in their bid to land Brazilian football’s next breakthrough talent.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has today provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Barca, it is understood, are working towards tying up a deal for Estêvão Willian.

Nicknamed ‘Messinho’ in his home country of Brazil, Palmeiras sensation Estêvão has long piqued the attentions of a whole host of European football’s top clubs.

Over the last couple of months alone, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have both been tipped as close to striking a deal for the 16-year-old attacker.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word doing the rounds on Friday is anything to go by, then it is in fact Barcelona who look on track to beat out the competition to his signature.

Understandably keen not to miss out on a player this week labelled as ‘the next Neymar’, the Blaugrana are said to have stepped up their efforts to land Messinho at the earliest opportunity.

As per the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his official Kick channel:

“Barca [have made] very good progress on the player side, and from what I’m hearing, Barca would be the favourite destination of the player.”
