Barcelona recorded their second win of their pre-season tour in Asia earlier today as they put seven goals past FC Seoul and marched on convincingly.

The two games so far have given the management and the players plenty of positives to take home and a lot of enthusiasm heading into the new campaign.

Concurrently, however, the tour has highlighted the crisis the club will face after returning to Catalonia after the tour with regard to the captaincy situation. After all, there is a lot of tension behind the scenes in that regard.

Barcelona dressing room is worried

Traditionally, it has always been the team that elects the captains ahead of the new season, and the decision is taken around two weeks before the start of the season. Previous captains, usually, are given a preference in return for their loyalty.

This situation, in theory, should thus see Marc-Andre ter Stegen continue as the first-team captain for the new campaign.

The friction between the club and the player, however, leaves that uncertain, and MARCA relays that the dressing room is now worried.

The players in garnet-and-blue know that they face a difficult decision once they return home, for they must choose the captains for next season themselves and thus take sides in a war between the club and Ter Stegen.

The German goalkeeper has refused to leave this summer despite Barcelona signing Joan Garcia and installing him as a starter. His decision to publicly announce his layoff period through surgery and complicate Barcelona’s FFP situation only burned more bridges.

Players like Frenkie de Jong have come out openly in support of the goalkeeper and battled for him to continue as captain, while others, including Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia, remained neutral when asked about the same.

Needless to say, there is a chance of a divide being created in the dressing room after the tour, and it remains to be seen how Hansi Flick handles the delicate situation.
