Drama and Barcelona appear to have gone hand in hand over the past few years. The latest saga surrounding coach Xavi Hernandez has been marked by rumours of internal conflict.

Despite speculation anticipated to have settled down once Xavi confirmed his continuity, revelations regarding the club’s dissatisfaction with the coach began doing the rounds after the coach shed light on Barça’s finances.

Now, a resolution regarding the 44-year-old’s future is yet to be reached, but things are looking bleak with his departure in the offing.

The dressing room is pessimistic

Indeed, according to Javi Miguel, the atmosphere in the dressing room is increasingly bleak, with a prevailing sense of pessimism among the players.

Many players in the locker room believe that Xavi’s departure is imminent, fueling uncertainty about the club’s future direction.

Barcelona recently overcame Rayo Vallecano with a 3-0 win, but that has not stopped the scrutiny over Xavi from dying down.

As such, the morale in the dressing room is low. Several players have much to owe to Xavi, especially the youngsters who have made debuts under him.

The possibility of the coach’s departure will likely upset those individuals. Others have been speculated to be upset by Xavi’s treatment, with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha said to have their reservations.

In any case, the coach’s meeting with Joan Laporta next week will clear the air once and for all.

Deco will have the final say

Reports have mentioned that sporting director Deco will decide whether to continue with Xavi or not, as Joan Laporta has delegated the matter to him.

But with the Portuguese preferring Rafa Marquez and alternatives like Thiago Motta and Hansi Flick continuing to be evaluated, Xavi’s continuation looks slim.
