Injuries have played a vital role in shaping this season for FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants have had to improvise at several different stages of the campaign due to exactly that problem. While some experiments have been more successful than others, it has still been frustrating as a whole for Barcelona.

However, it would appear that those woes continue to plague Barcelona from outside the club as well. While the injuries referred to previously have all come to players already playing at Barça and then having to be sidelined, a major update on the same spectrum now arrives all the way over from the Netherlands.

As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Sergino Dest has now become the latest name to join the players who have been sidelined this season over extreme injuries. In his case, the American fullback has suffered a rupture of his anterior crucial ligament, the same issue that Gavi continues to fight with after being injured during international duty.

Dest’s injury, however, came about during a training session with PSV Eindhoven. Given the severity of the injury, it is now also expected that the player will not be available for selection at any level, or for any team, until at least 2025. However, even his recovery and rehabilitation will now be taken over by Barcelona, and they will use their own trusted professionals to treat the 23-year-old fullback

Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, who is currently employed at the Hospital of Barcelona and is an orthopedic and traumatological surgeon, previously operated on the likes of Gavi and Phillippe Coutinho over similar injuries, could end up being the choice of the club to treat Sergino Dest as well. However, only time will tell what approach Barcelona end up taking.

Initially, the Catalan club had hopes of doing something with Dest over the course of the summer. Having spent the last two seasons on loan at AC Milan and PSV respectively, Dest’s future at Barcelona was still uncertain. Potentially a new loan deal, even a sale, or possibly continuity with Barcelona for once, were all options on the table.
