Barcelona-linked free agent’s past Blaugrana comments resurface | OneFootball

Past comments on the part of a player hotly tipped to take his talents to Barcelona next summer have this week come back to the fore online.

The player in question? Jonathan David.

The name of frontman David has of course taken its place front and centre in the media chatter surrounding Barcelona over recent days.

This comes after widespread reports pointed towards the Canadian as having made his way onto the radar of the transfer team at the Camp Nou.

David’s contract is due to expire next summer, with Barcelona understood to have identified the Lille standout as a potential cut-price long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Those of a Blaugrana persuasion, in turn, will no doubt be interested to hear that David actually previously spoke out on his admiration for the Catalans.

Speaking during an interview with Winamax FC in March of 2023, the talented goalscorer confirmed:

“Barcelona have always been my favourite team since I was a kid.

“On Saturday mornings, when I was young in Canada, I watched the Premier League and La Liga. It’s every child’s dream.

“When I was young, my idol was Ronaldinho because he was a player that could do everything on the pitch, but he wasn’t in the same position as me. I also liked to follow the example of players such as Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba.”
