Barcelona are likely to receive the official verdict from La Liga’s medical panel today regarding Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury, according to Mundo Deportivo.
This decision will confirm the exact length of time the goalkeeper will be out of action. The news is critical for Barcelona’s squad planning and registration for the new season.
It is to be noted that Ter Stegen underwent surgery after dealing with a back problem for years. Both the club’s medical experts and the surgeon have agreed that his recovery will be long and difficult.
While the goalkeeper himself had initially estimated about three months away from the pitch, the latest medical reports show it will be at least four months before he can return.
Liga will likely label the injury as long-term, allowing Barcelona to free a portion of Ter Stegen’s salary to register new players.

Amidst all this, Joan Garcia’s registration remains in limbo, but the club is working hard to register him before the upcoming La Liga match against Mallorca.
The amount of salary freed up depends on how long Ter Stegen’s injury layoff is confirmed to be. If the absence is four months, Barcelona can use roughly 40% of the goalkeeper’s salary budget for new signings.
However, if Ter Stegen’s recovery extends to five months or more, that percentage jumps to 80%, which is similar to the situation of Andreas Christensen from last season.
This difference matters because it will determine whether Barcelona can register all their pending players immediately or will need to consider other squad changes.
While Ter Stegen’s injury is a setback for the team, it also provides the chance to register the former Espanyol keeper. The club will closely monitor the medical panel’s verdict today, which will shape their squad dynamics for the La Liga opener.
