FC Barcelona will host Rayo Vallecano this Monday at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic, aiming to reclaim the top spot in La Liga.

A victory over Inigo Perez’s men will send the Blaugrana level on points with current leaders Real Madrid but would put them ahead in the standings thanks to the superior goal difference.

However, Rayo Vallecano will pose a difficult change for Barça, having not lost any of their last nine league games, winning the previous three in a row.

Etienne Eto’o – the secret weapon?

The match will also be a memorable occasion for young Etienne Eto’o, son of Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o.

The 22-year-old forward, who plays for Rayo Vallecano’s reserve team, has been included in the first-team squad for the encounter, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Etienne Eto’o came through the youth academy of Mallorca before joining Rayo Vallecano last summer, following an impressive season at Union Collado Villalba.

This season, he has been excelling with Rayo Vallecano’s reserve side and is currently the top-scorer in Group 7 of the RFEF Tercera Division with 18 goals.

The youngster’s performances earned him a first-team debut in the Copa del Rey, where he made an immediate impact by scoring in Rayo’s 5-0 victory over Villamuriel, showcasing his natural goalscoring instinct.

Vallecano’s coach Inigo Perez confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Etienne will be in the squad for the trip to Barcelona and the 22-year-old arrives high on confidence after scoring the winner in a 3-2 victory for the reserve team against Galapagar.

Full of confidence, the young forward will hope to get a chance and make an impression against the club where his father excelled.
