Rivaldo backs Xavi

In the midst of speculation over his future, Xavi has received support from former Barcelona superstar Rivaldo.

The Brazilian footballing legend has supported Xavi’s words, agreeing that Barcelona do indeed require reinforcements to compete with the likes of Real Madrid.

“Xavi is a great coach and I understand that he wants to continue. Barcelona has to make one, two, three signings to be much stronger, to be able to help Xavi as well because Barcelona has great players,” Rivaldo said (h/t SPORT).

“But it still needs good reinforcements to compete on equal terms with any big club in Europe and fight for the Champions League,” he added.

Rivaldo is no stranger when it comes to Barcelona. During his career, he spent five years in Catalonia, notably appearing in 235 competitive matches.

Extending his praise on Xavi, Rivaldo stressed that Barcelona should not even discuss the future of the Spanish tactician.

“It was publicly said that Xavi would continue. That’s why I think we should no longer even be talking about his future. I don’t know why they still have doubts. The fans and players cannot be left in doubt. This situation cannot remain unknown,” he said.

Rivaldo praises Rafa Marquez

After praising Xavi, Rivaldo also acknowledged the work of Barça Athletic coach Rafa Marquez and his contributions to youth development.

The Brazilian even backed Rafa to replace Xavi, should the Spaniard leave the club at the end of the season.

“Rafa was a great player. He has made history at the club. It may be a good idea for him to take over, although, in my opinion, I repeat: all the factors are in place for Xavi to continue,” he concluded.
