Barcelona are working overtime to convince Xavi to stay at the club beyond the current season, and have reportedly set up a meeting with the Spaniard this week.

The rumours have suggested that the manager has asked the club for a competitive team that can go head-to-head against the best in Europe. However, it seems difficult that his wishes in the transfer window will be granted.

Despite that, it now seems like Barcelona are confident that they will be able to sway Xavi’s decision in their favour for another season, at least.

And it seems Barcelona have already mapped a plan for the 2025/26 season, keeping in mind three coaches whose contracts are expiring at their current clubs.

The Barcelona DNA trio

According to a report published by SPORT, Barcelona are keeping tabs on three coaches with the ‘Barça DNA’. These are namely, Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Mikel Arteta.

All three of their contracts with their current teams – Manchester City, PSG, and Arsenal, respectively -, expire in the summer of 2025.

The idea is to rely on Xavi for another season at least, and then assess their options. This will depend on the Spaniard’s wish to continue at the club, and of course, how the team fares under him for another season.

It also highly hinges on whether either of the three coaches would want to join Barcelona in their current financial condition, given that they are very used to a luxurious transfer window lifestyle at their current terms.

Barcelona not convinced by Marquez

Another option is to replace Xavi with Barcelona Atletic coach Rafael Marquez, who has been doing excellent work with the reserve team.

However, Barcelona are not entirely convinced by him. While he has the backing of president Joan Laporta, the rest of the board members are understandably iffy about his promotion.

And even Laporta would much rather Xavi continue as the head coach.
