Barcelona’s recent set of results in La Liga has indicated that clubs across Spain are finally starting to figure out Hansi Flick’s high defensive line.

Although Barça have yet to completely lose their focus, the club are identifying early signs and keeping that in mind, they are keen on shoring up their ranks in defence heading into the January transfer window.

Barcelona eye move for Jhon Lucumi

To that end, a recent report from AS suggests Barcelona are particularly keeping an eye on Jhon Lucumi.

Formerly of Genk, Lucumi has found immense success since joining Bologna in the summer of 2022. He has featured in 79 competitive matches for the club in two years.

During this time, the Colombian has established himself as a key component of Bologna’s defensive line, impressing onlookers with his consistent performances at the back.

In Serie A, Lucumi has won the most number of duels while also clinching his place as the most accurate long passer in the league.

These qualities have made Lucumi an attractive option for Barcelona, as they look to shore up their ranks in central defence.

With Andreas Christensen facing an uncertain future at the club and Jules Kounde seemingly emerging as a right-back option, the addition of Lucumi could be useful.

However, signing the Colombian international won’t be an easy task. The player still has a contract at Bologna until 2026, with a release clause of €25 million.

It is unlikely Barcelona will be in a position to splash such an amount in January. However, he could certainly emerge as a serious option for the Catalans in the summer of 2025.
