It is no secret that Barcelona wish to bring in a new right-back in the summer and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans are keen on signing Bayern Munich ace Benjamin Pavard.

The 26-year-old will be entering the final year of his contract with the German champions this summer. And he has no desire to renew with Die Roten, who themselves are open to selling the French international, who has had some issues with manager Julian Nagelsmann.

In order to prepare for his departure in the summer, Bayern Munich are set to sign Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo on loan this month with a buy option likely to be included.

The Portuguese and Noussair Mazraoui, who is currently recovering from injury, would thus be the frontline options at right-back for the Bundesliga champions, paving the way for Pavard to leave.

And, Barcelona are understood to be keen on signing the 26-year-old French international.

The right-back position has been a major problem for the Blaugrana for a long while now. Numerous players like Nelson Semedo, Aleix Vidal, Sergino Dest and more recently Hector Bellerin have been brought in to address the problem, but the issue persists.

Hence, the club intend to sign a quality right-back in the summer while also ensuring that it is a feasible operation financially. Pavard’s experience at the highest level and his contract situation make him a viable target for Barcelona.

Furthermore, Toni Juanmarti is reporting that Pavard would be ‘delighted’ to join the Catalan giants and his entourage has communicated the same to the club already.

But, nothing is set in stone at this point as Barcelona still have to learn their Financial Fair Play situation in the summer, depending on which they will have decide their next moves.

For now, what seems to be clear is that both parties are keen on a move and Bayern Munich will not stand in the way of a transfer come summer.
