Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid have issued a joint statement in response to the sanctions imposed by UEFA on the remaining clubs in the Super League.
The three clubs could be banned from the Champions League after refusing to take up the ‘reintegration measures’ laid out by UEFA on Friday evening.
They have responded by appearing to continue their desire to persist with the breakaway Super League.
In the statement, the clubs insisted: “We are ready to reconsider the proposed approach, if necessary.
“However, we would be very irresponsible if, aware of the needs and the systemic crisis in the football sector, which led us to announce the Super League, we abandon this mission of providing effective and lasting answers to the existential questions that threaten the football industry.”
Further on in the press release, the nine other clubs involved in the breakaway were referred to:
“We regret to see that our friends and founding partners of the Super League project have now found themselves in such an inconsistent position. and contradictory by signing several commitments with UEFA yesterday.”
UEFA announced that AC Milan, Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Inter, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham will have 5% of their European competition revenue withheld for one season upon their reintegration.
