Barcelona issue Nico Williams denial | OneFootball

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have moved to clarify recent claims surrounding an alleged agreement with Athletic Club star Nico Williams.

It is of course common knowledge at this point that the Barcelona brass are working tirelessly to bring attacker Williams to the club this summer.

Having identified the 22-year-old as their chief transfer target, Deco and co. have long kicked into gear negotiations with both the player, and his entourage.

As much comes with a view to wrapping up an agreement on the personal terms of a long-term contract.

Upon recent word coming to the fore in the Spanish media that such an accord had indeed been reached, those of a Blaugrana persuasion could in turn have been forgiven for getting a touch excited.

As alluded to above, though, such supporters need not get their hopes up too much, at least for the time being.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘Sources at the club admit that they have not closed an agreement with the player. If they had, they would have already activated his release clause.’

With Athletic Club continuing to work hard to keep hold of their crown jewel, and French champions Paris Saint-Germain having entered the fray with force, too, the race for Williams therefore remains very much open.
