According to a recent report from Luis Miguelsanz in SPORT, Barcelona are considering Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah as a potential addition to their squad.

It must be noted that Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season and while Liverpool are keen on retaining him, there is also significant interest from Saudi Arabia.

Nonetheless, Barcelona appear determined to monitor his situation closely as the season progresses.

Barcelona’s previous interest

The outlet mentioned that former Barcelona manager Xavi had viewed Salah as a player who could bring a unique impact to the team. When Barcelona initially looked into signing him, the attacker was still in talks to extend his Liverpool contract.

At that time, Barcelona’s interest was real, but they hesitated to move forward due to the high salary involved, with Salah reportedly earning around €15 million per season.

Now, with his contract nearing its end, Salah could be more open to a move, particularly as he approaches the final major contract phase of his career.

Things have changed

Barcelona have identified strengthening the wings as a top priority for the upcoming transfer window. Currently, Nico Williams remains the preferred target for this role. However, Salah’s name is firmly on the table as an alternative.

Given Barcelona’s strong performance on the offensive end this season, adding a player of Salah’s calibre would only enhance their attacking prowess.

In the meantime, Salah has been delivering impressive numbers with Liverpool, scoring nine goals in 15 appearances so far. Liverpool are well aware of the mounting interest from Saudi Arabia, but Barcelona’s renewed attention suggests they see a clear opportunity.

Now it remains to be seen how Salah himself will choose to shape his future, and whether Barcelona can edge out other suitors to bring the prolific forward to Camp Nou.
