Barcelona are interested in Real Sociedad attacker Takefusa Kubo, according to AS.
Barca manager Xavi Hernandez likes the player and wants to bring him to Spotify Camp Nou.
Xavi’s interest has led club bosses to contact his agent to ask about his contract situation.
Kubo’s situation is quite complicated, and Barcelona are trying to see how feasible it is to make a deal.
The Japanese winger joined Real Sociedad last summer for only €6 million. Real Madrid included a right to first refusal in the contract, and they also hold 50% of his economic rights.
Kubo has a €60m release clause in his contract. If Barcelona pay that, Real Madrid will get €30m (50%).
Madrid are not interested in Kubo. They are more focused on renewing Brahim Diaz’s contract and a new deal for Dani Ceballos. They also have Jude Bellingham as their main target.
Barcelona think Kubo would seamlessly fit into the team’s style of play. He was in Barcelona’s youth system, and they know all about him.
He meets Barca’s profile. He is young (21) and has quality, physical capacity, speed, creativity and speed of execution.
Kubo has netted four goals and three assists in 19 La Liga appearances for La Real this season. He also has two assists in the Europa League.
However, Barcelona may have to sell one or two players before they can sign him due to their dwindling finances.
They already have Ousmane Dembele, Raphinha and Ferran Torres, who all prefer to play on the right side of the attack. They could sell one of them to make way for Kubo.
