Barcelona have managed to secure the futures of several key players like Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, and Pau Cubarsi with new contract renewals in recent weeks.

But the spree of renewals is unlikely to stop anytime soon as sporting director Deco continues to work towards shielding the core of the team.

As reported earlier this week, the next wave of renewals could see Barça tying down other important players like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde to new and improved deals.

Kounde to be offered a new contract until 2030

Now, SPORT reports that Kounde could be the next Barcelona player to extend his contract in the coming weeks.

The Catalans have already decided to offer the French international a renewal, extending his current deal – set to expire in 2027 – until 2030.

The report adds that the chances of reaching an agreement are highly favourable as Barcelona are very pleased with Kounde’s performances, while the player himself is happy at the club and fully committed to securing an extension.

Manager Hansi Flick is also a strong admirer of the 26-year-old defender. Furthermore, the tensions that arose regarding Kounde’s role at right-back, when Xavi Hernandez was in charge, are now a thing of the past.

Kounde has adapted well to the full-back position and feels increasingly comfortable in the role. However, Barça have informed him that he could still be needed as a central defender depending on the team’s needs, which he has accepted with full professionalism.

Chelsea still lurking

The report adds that Chelsea continue to hold an interest in Kounde, having first tried to sign him from Sevilla in 2022, only to be beaten by Barcelona.

The Blues explored a transfer last summer as well and could return with an offer of around €100 million this year. But Barcelona have no intention of entertaining any bids for the Frenchman.

Kounde, for his part, is not considering a move either despite being aware of the interest from Chelsea as well as some clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona aim to finalise Kounde’s extension before completing the renewal of Raphinha, whose contract they want to extend until 2029.
