Barcelona made the trip to Real Betis on Saturday and the two clubs were forced to split the points after a 2-2 draw.
Scorers: Lo Celso 68' (P), Diao 90+4'; Lewandowski 39', Torres 82'
Hansi Flick's side dominated possession of the ball at Estadio Benito Villamarín, but they had to first stifle a flurry of chances from the Real Betis.
The hosts appeared more than ready to take the visitors to the sword, but a late Raphinha clearance off the line and diving saves from Iñaki Peña denied them.
Barcelona grew into the game and eventually strung a stunning 27 passes together before Jules Koundé whipped in a cross that Robert Lewandowski converted.
That slim lead, however, allowed Real Betis to remain confident and Abde Ezzalzouli fell short of an equaliser thrice. One mistake then opened the door.
Minutes after entering the pitch, Frenkie De Jong committed a foul in the box. A long VAR check awarded the hosts a penalty and gave Flick a direct red card.
Giovani Lo Celso scored the subsequent spot kick past a diving Peña.
The final 10 minutes were all Barcelona, though. And VAR was involved in another incident. Lamine Yamal sent a brilliant through ball past three defenders and Ferran Torres' goal was allowed to stand after initially being ruled offside.
The drama wasn't over, though. A late attack from the hosts eventually saw Assane Diao pull off an exquisite backheel flick to see the points split at the death.
The result means Barcelona have a five-point lead at the top while Real Betis are 11th.
